毎年1月の第３月曜日がMartin Luther King Jr. dayで、アメリカの祝日。そう、今年は19日。そしてその翌日の20日、Barack Obamaがinauguration（大統領就任）で正式にアメリカの第44代大統領・・・初めての黒人の大統領となったわけだ。
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. ” — Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King牧師は、あの有名なspeech、”I Have a Dream”で言った。「私には夢があるんだ。いつか、私の４人の子供たちが、肌の色ではなく、どういった人間であるのか・・・その人の”中身”で判断されるといった日がくるという夢が。（訳：NAOKO）」
時代は変わった。changeで得たchance。でも、人々はこのchanceに応えていくことができるだろうか？
President Obamaは言う。
“What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility — a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character than giving our all to a difficult task.” — Barack Obama
今我々に必要なのは、新しい時代への”責任”だ。我々一人一人が、アメリカ人として、我々自身や我々の国、世界に対して義務・・・いやいやではなく快く受け入れるべき義務を負っていることを認識しなければならない。困難に身を捧げるということほど、我々の心を満たし、それが我々のあるべき姿だということを感じさせるものはない。（訳：NAOKO）
一人一人がresponsibilityを感じ行動できると、人に対するloveやrespectも生まれるんじゃないかな。どの人種にも言えると思う・・・人を愛さない限り、誰もあなたを愛してくれないやろし。people will love you back if you show your love to them. そのためにも一人一人のresponsibilityって重要やね・・・日本の首相に言わせたいね。
そして、2Pacは言う。(彼のアルバムGreatest Hitsの”Changes”、Nasのアルバム無題の”Black President”のverse）

このverseに”Yes, we are ready!”と言ってほしいから、Frederick Douglasの言葉を、今一度Black American達に。

一生懸命に立ち向かわなければ、進歩はない。土地を耕やさないで豊作を望んだり、雨は降ってほしいといいながら雷や稲妻はいやだ・・・なんて言う人は、自由に賛成！としながらも、この（自由を求める）運動を盛り下げてる人々だ。（訳：NAOKO）
